Wild Cherry Live At Hoodstock (2014)
Wild Cherry
Review Date: November 23, 2014

Wild Cherry’s Rob Parissi has been a good friend and earlier and generous supporter of Boomerocity. His heart is as big as his career accomplishments. This became evident with earlier this year when he set up an endowment (The Rob Parissi Scholarship Endowment) for his former high school, Indian Creek High School. To help fund that endowment, Rob brought together the original members of his chart topping band (Bryan Bassett, Allen Wentz and Ron Beitle) to play a very rare concert for his hometown crowd as well as out-of-town/out-of-state supporters.

Recorded in Rob’s hometown of Mingo Junction, Ohio, back in August, the intimate performance shows Wild Cherry relaxed but still showing that they have the chops that took them to the top of the charts. The sold out crowd is enthusiastic and responsive and loved the banter that Rob engaged with them.

Wild Cherry performs some of their memorable tunes such as “I Feel Sanctified,” “Get It Up,” “Knock On Wood” (the show closer), “Closest Thing To My Mind,” “Hang On Sloopy” (dedicated to Ohio State University), the Beatles’ “All My Loving of course, the night wouldn’t have been complete without a memorable performance of “Play That Funky Music.”

During “PTFM,” Rob introduces the band and shares some of the history of the band. That, alone, is worth the price of the DVD.

You can only order the DVD here and the roceeds from the sale of “Wild Cherry Live At Hoodstock” go to the endowment to help out Indian Creek High School. You can keep up with the plans for next year’s gala (to be held in Wheeling, WV), by following Hoodstock 2015’s Facebook page (here). It’s all for a great cause!
